China House Great Journey, Pilar Quinteros, 2017
After some research about Newport Beach and it’s surroundings, I found some historical information online where I discovered the existence of China House in Corona del Mar. I was interested in the fact that the house put the name of that area but it wasn’t there anymore. That’s how the project started. But it became a trip to the house after I learned about a Chinatown in Santa Ana, which was intentionally burned as a “sanitary” measure at the beginning of the 20th century. This two places are connected as they both give an account of the homogenizing process cities experience, regardless of the cultural multiplicity in them.
